Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna pupils to protest outside Dail today

Parents and pupils from Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna in Knockyon will stage a protest outside the Dail today in relation to the poor conditions 260 children have to sit in every day.

Spread across 14 prefabs, which have deteriorated over a period of 21 years, the school say there is an immediate need for a building plan.

According to the Department of Education, the conveyancing process is currently underway. Once that is complete it is expected that architectural planning will commence.

However, Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna Principal, Maire Ni Ghallchoir says the need for a permanent school building is immediate due to rotting floors, ceilings caving in, a lack of running water during the winter and many other issues.

Ms Ni Ghallchoir said the prefabs are “literally falling down” and today’s protest is targeted at raising further awareness of the problems in the hope that the building plan can be brought forward.
