At around 6:20am it is believed the 37-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute with his partner at a house in the Brookview area of Tallaght.

Reports suggest he then took his partner’s car and crashed it minutes later in Russell Square.

From there he hijacked another vehicle which he abandoned on Whitestown Way a short time later.

As the Garda search continued the man walked to the Watergate estate and smashed in the front door of a house before assaulting a man who lived there.

It is at this address that he stole the black Renault Kadjar (registration 162 D 8767) which Gardai confirmed in a statement.

The man is described as a white male, medium build, wearing grey shorts, a green and black Northface jacket and grey and navy runners.

Speaking to Echo.ie this afternoon, a senior Garda source confirmed there was a sighting of the armed man in Clondalkin, but no further information was available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardai immediately on 999 or 112.
