Gardai appeal for witnesses following fatal road traffic collision

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Ballyfermot on Monday afternoon.

Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot this afternoon, Monday, December 27.

According to a Garda statement issued this evening, the collision occurred shortly before 1pm, when a car and bicycle collided.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The cyclist, a man aged in his 80s, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“His body was taken to Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem will now take place in due course.

“The driver of the car was unharmed.”

Diversions were in place for some time to allow for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, with the road now fully re-opened.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to make contact.

They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling on the Killeen Road at this time, to make this footage available to them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
