Gardaí arrest thief who targeted women in cars

CLONDALKIN gardaí arrested a thief this week, who targeted women arriving back from the shops to their cars.

During two separate incidents on Saturday, May 21, women were attacked by the same individual – a man in his early 30s.

The first incident occurred at the Mill Shopping centre at approximately 10am, and the second occurred near the Spar shop/Nangor Centre, on the Old Nangor Road/Cherrywood, shortly after 2pm.

On both occasions, women were on their own getting back into their car, when a man approached them, jumped into the vehicle, and took their handbags after a struggle.

A Garda spokesperson told The Echo the women suffered “minor injuries”, and Clondalkin Gardaí subsequently arrested and charged a man, who is due to appear in Cloverhill Court on Friday, May 27.

Regarding the Old Nangor Road robbery, a Garda spokesperson said: “The male suspect got into the injured parties’ car to take a handbag. A small struggle ensued. The suspect got away with the handbag.

“A male in his early 30s was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Justice Act, and charged in connection with the investigation. He appeared in Blanchardstown Court on May 24, and was remanded in custody to appear in Cloverhill Court on May 27.”

The robberies shocked the community, with many residents expressing their hope that the two women make a full recovery after their ordeal.
