Gardai catch man (41) in possession of generator stolen from construction site

A MAN caught by gardai in possession of a generator stolen from a construction site was before Tallaght District Court.

Garda Jason Treacy told the court that on March 22, 2025, gardai were called to the scene of a trespass incident at a Glenbeigh Properties building site in Cheeverstown, Tallaght.

Two males, one of them identified as Stephen Hall (41), with an address of MacUilliam Parade, Tallaght, were observed by gardai walking approximately 100 metres away from a construction site at 11pm.

Gardai stopped and searched Mr Hall at Cheeverstown Luas stop car park and discovered he was carrying a generator and €20 worth of cannabis on him.

The court heard that the value of the generator was €500 and all property was recovered.

Mr Hall has 21 previous convictions, including three for theft.

Defence solicitor Eddie O’Connor said his client, a father of tree, struggled with drug issues but was currently engaged in a maintenance programme for treatment.

Mr Hall told Judge Patricia McNamara that he relapsed around the time of the offence, had been using crack cocaine but that he was off that and taking methadone as part of a maintenance programme.

Judge McNamara noted the guilty plea, the defendant’s co-operation with gardai and his recovery programme, remanding Mr Hall for consent to a drug treatment course on November 19 at Green Street Courthouse, Smithfield, for assessment.
