Gardai launch appeal for witnesses after boy stabbed to death in Kimmage

Gardai in Crumlin are appealing for witnesses after a three-year-old boy was stabbed to death at an apartment complex in the Kimmage area yesterday evening.

Emergency services were called to the complex in Poddle Park at around 7pm, where they found the young child and a woman in her 40s.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to St James’ Hospital to be treated for knife wounds.

There has been a huge outpouring of grief overnight, and neighbours have been leaving messages, flowers and teddies at the gates to the apartment block.

In a statement released this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai investigating the death of a three-year-old boy, which occurred Monday eveing in Poddle Park, Kimmage, Dublin 12 are appealing for witnesses.

“A woman in her early 40s was also taken to St. James Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

“Gardai are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Poddle Park  between 5pm on Sunday 9th July and 7pm on Monday 10th July 2017 to contact them at Crumlin Garda Station on 01 666 6200.”
