Gardai make appeal as Clondalkin man fatally assaulted is named locally

Gardai have appealed for information to a fatal assault in Clondalkin last night as the man who died in Neilstown has been named locally as Robert Ellis.

According to gardai Mr Ellis, who was the victim of a gun attack in 2015, was chased from a bonfire in the St Mark’s area to Liscarne Gardens where he was fatally assaulted.

At a press briefing this afternoon gardai said they believe the victim was followed into the garden of a house by several people.

A group were then seen leaving the garden via a back wall, and gardai are asking for anyone with information, specifically what direction those seen leaving the area went in, to contact them.

Superintendent Dermot Mann from Lucan said: “We have information that a number of people left the garden over the wall.

“What we’re looking for is anyone that knows the direction of travel of those people.

“The Neilstown Road is a busy road so if we could have any help from the public and the community it would be appreciated.”

Gardaí at Ronanstown are appealing for anyone who was in the general area of St. Marks/Neilstowns Road/Liscarne Gardens between 1a.m. and 3.30a.m. to contact them at Ronanstown Garda Station on 01 – 6667700, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
