Go-ahead for café and patisserie shop on ground floor of The Square

PERMISSION has been granted for the change of use of a former currency exchange unit on the ground floor of The Square Shopping Centre, into a café and patisserie shop.

The unit, which is adjacent to the Oopsadaisy Play Garden on Level 1, previously housed the UAE Xchange shop.

In a planning application submitted by Rixus Ltd last June, it was proposed that the unit be changed into a café and patisserie shop, including the sale of hot and cold beverages.

The proposed works in order to achieve this allow for the internal configuration of the unit, including fit-out of it to facilitate development with provision of serving counter, store, toilets and seating area.

Alterations are to include a ground-floor-level façade, a new glazed door and window, new awning to shopfront, new signage and projecting signage to front façade.

On August 15, South Dublin County Council granted permission for the change of use with a number of conditions.

These conditions include signage for the café not being internally lit, the submission of drawings outlining elevations and sections for an awning over the unit, while outdoor seating will have to be removed and stored securely before the latest closing time to the public every day.
