Geriatric day care centre plans for part of convent building

PLANS for part of the existing Presentation Convent building in Clondalkin to be a geriatric day care centre, called the Aging Well Centre, have been submitted to South Dublin County Council.

The application was lodged by Bartra Property Limited, seeking permission for the change of use of part of the existing convent building from staff accommodation into a day centre.

The staff accommodation is ancillary to the permitted adjacent nursing home/retirement home facility and was granted permission in a prior planning application.

Bartra’s plans for the change of use include internal alterations and improvements to the interior of the convent at ground, first and second floors to enable it to be a geriatric day care centre.

External alterations to accommodate two stair cores, one to include a lift, within the courtyard space and alterations to two existing windows to form escape doors and blocking up a 2nd-floor window are included.

Permission is also sought for all ancillary site and development works associated with the above plans.

A decision on the application for the change of use is due from South Dublin County Council by October 13.

This is the latest update in the plans for the convent site, which in 2018 saw over 40 third-party submissions submitted, the majority of them being objections against the nursing home plans.
