Proposals include a grass playing pitch 140 x 90m with flood lighting, score boards, with a barrier and seating for spectators.

Works associated with the development also include pedestrian areas, footpaths and landscaping - linking existing facilities with the development.

The demolition of 46 existing car parking spaces at the site was sought by the college, and up to 56 covered bicycle parking spaces and covered walkways will be provided.

Plans also include enhanced pedestrian crossing facilities accessing the college on the Greenhills Road side, and a pedestrian refuge island on Greenhills Road with associated road markings and traffic signs.

The application site is centrally located within the college campus, bounded by Belgard Road to the west, industrial buildings accessed off Airton Road to the north, Greenhills Road to the east and to the south by Old Blessington Road and the grounds of the Old Priory.

The college are required to engage the services of an archaeologist to carry out pre-development testing at the site, as part of the conditions set out by South Dublin County Council.

SDCC granted permission for the development on February 8.
