Halloween Costume Swap will help children during celebrations
FOR the second year running, the Liffey Partnership are gearing up for a Halloween Costume Swap at St Ultan’s Primary School in Cherry Orchard and calling on members of the public to donate any costumes they no longer need.
These costumes will be given a second life on October 20, with the help of the Meet Mend and Make Group, who promise to make any alterations or repairs where needed, ensuring that local kids don’t go without during the Halloween festivities.
The Liffey Partnership have been graced with the help of several community groups to help pull off the Swap Shop, with an organisation, Change Clothing, located on Thomas Street, providing them with a changing room set-up and several helpful accoutrements.
“They have given us a kit with rails, mirrors, and a changing area that we can set up that the children can go in and try on the outfit and everything,” Ann Geraghty of the Liffey Partnership said.
“We are always inclusive and ensure that everyone is treated the same.
Any child who does come in, whether they need a costume, or if it doesn’t fit them, we have the Meet Mend and Make Group, who are a sewing group of ladies here in Cherry Orchard. They have offered to mend anything that may need alterations for the children to ensure that the costumes fit them right.”
Between 1 and 3 pm on October 20, St Ultan’s School will be welcoming anyone and everyone to come along and swap out their old, “gently used” costumes and pick a new one ahead of Halloween, ensuring that every child will be suited and booted for whatever fun lies ahead.
“There might be an odd sweet or two as well for the children and maybe the adults too, if they’re good,” Ann added.
On Halloween night, Cherry Orchard will be lit up in colour during Dublin City Council’s firework display, which is promised to be a great one.
“Dublin City Council put on amazing fireworks on Halloween night from seven, so it’s all inclusive. There’s no cost associated with that or any of the events that are put on in Cherry Orchard.”
