Lucan Drama set for four-night theatre run
“ALL THREE of the short plays are centred around the theme of relationships, reflecting the delicate balance of beauty and chaos that comes with any relationship” explains Ellen Downes, chairperson of Lucan Drama.
The group is delighted to announce its One-Act Plays, taking to the stage at Courtney’s Pub, Lucan, for four nights only.
This year’s programme features three plays: ‘Reunion’ by Connor Hillman, ‘Lunch Hour’ by John Mortimer, and ‘Latte’ by Sarah Fahy.
‘Latte,’ set in an Irish coffee shop, follows waitress Aoife as she faces a decision that will change the course of her future.
It explores relationship uncertainty, choice and the lasting impact of the decisions we make.
‘Lunch Hour’ is set in a hotel room, where a man and woman are meeting to express their love.
In order to be discreet when booking, he fabricated a story for the manageress. It’s the sixties after all. How will this go down with his mistress, though?
‘Reunion’ sees two old friends reconnect after 15 years. Old wounds re-open, regrets – long pushed beneath the surface – are brought back up. Is it ever truly too late for a second chance?
‘Reunion’ had its world premiere in Lucan Drama’s summer evening of One Acts this year.
It is going out on competition over the next few weeks on the One Act Festival Circuit, Ireland’s premier competitive amateur drama programme, run jointly by the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland (ADCI) and the Drama League of Ireland (DLI).
Together they promise a varied and entertaining few nights of live drama, from sharp comedy to touching human moments, performed by the group’s talented cast in the warm, intimate setting of Courtney’s.
The One-Act Plays follow a “hugely enjoyable” Open Mic Night in September, which saw poets, singers, storytellers and actors take to the floor to a full house.
“There is a huge amount of talent in Lucan; it really was a relaxing and entertaining evening,” Ellen remarks.
The group has had a busy year and recently launched its new website at lucandrama.ie, bringing all its news, events and ways to get involved into one place.
One can find information on how to get involved if they wish to become a member, and they are currently developing their archive.
“It’s great to have a virtual home for Lucan Drama,” continues Ellen.
2027 will be a special year for Lucan Drama as they commemorate their 70th anniversary, having first been founded in 1957.
Ellen would like to thank the management and staff of Courtney’s, the SDCC, and the Lucan locals who come to support the group’s shows.
Lucan Drama’s three one-act plays perform in Courney’s Pub, Lucan, from October 19 to 22 at 7:30pm.
Tickets are now available through the website at lucandrama.
With just four nights on offer, audiences are encouraged to book early.
