A MAN who was allegedly involved in a riot at a halting site last year will be tried in the Circuit Court.
Judge Patricia McNamara refused jurisdiction in James Casey's case.

The court heard that there were between 15 and 20 men involved in the incident at St Aidan's Halting Site in Tallaght.

Casey, aged 24, with an address at St Aidan’s Halting Site, Brookfield, Tallaght, is charged with possession of a slash hook and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour at the halting site on September 20, 2015.

A Solicitor for the DPP told Judge McNamara that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

Judge McNamara asked what was alleged. Inspector Ray Blake said it will be alleged that on September 20 last, he was called to deal with a serious public order incident at St Aidan’s Halting Site involving 15 to 20 members of the Travelling community.

He said it will be alleged that Casey was the victim of an assault but did not wish to make a complaint.

He said that the situation calmed down but later it seemed to start up again and he saw Casey holding a slash hook.

Inspector Blake said it will be alleged that Casey on seeing the gardai threw the slash hook behind a wall. He said it will be alleged that he searched Casey and arrested him. The slash hook was four and a half feet long and was home made.

Judge McNamara refused jurisdiction. She remanded Casey on bail for six weeks for service of the book of evidence.
