How Do We Care? Festival examines the nature of care in our society
How Do We Care?, SoloSIRENs’ second festival, is a gathering of talks, workshops, and performances centred around the nature of care in our society.
The festival, which takes place over three weekends, features pieces by artists Jenny Macdonald, Tatiana Santos, and Veronica Dyas that explore the theme of care in society from personal experience, as well as a piece made by the intercultural, intergenerational, community collective SoloSIRENs that explores their own interpretations of care.
Tatiana Santos examines the experience of being invisible as an immigrant in Ireland.
Jenny Macdonald talks about her experience with breast cancer and the lessons it taught her about self-care and community.
Veronica Dyas wonders if creating theatre in a culture where socio-economic divides are growing is both ethically and practically possible.
The work of the SoloSIRENs collective will place these concerns within the global narratives of women.
The artists will encourage and promote one another’s work during the festival, placing a strong emphasis on cooperation and equal display.
Through bringing together academics, artists, and South Dublin communities to discuss problems that are important to everyone, SoloSIRENs seeks to elevate the voices of women who identify as female.
Following each show, the festival will have workshops to encourage collaboration and exploration between viewers, locals, and artists.
The festival also has a mentoring programme for Neltah Chadamoyo, an up-and-coming theatrical artist. Neltah will read a recent piece that examines how different cultures take care of their bodies.
‘How Do We Care?’ runs from November 14 to December 16 in The Civic theatre.
