The frozen food chain store will be accessed through a new walkway, which, located between Molloy’s Pub and the apartment block, will open to the public soon – with underground parking for Iceland customers provided on site, which will be connected to the store through travelators.

In recent months, the public car park to the front of the new apartments also underwent significant improvement works, which includes repaving, fitted seats and landscape planting.

The Echo understands that a major coffee shop is also interested in securing one of the glass-fronted units.

Speaking with The Echo, Iceland Ireland MD Ron Metcalfe said: “We are excited to be coming back to Tallaght.

“Our Tallaght branch closed back in 2005, so this kind of feels like we’re coming home.

“Tallaght is a key location for us, a strategic location, and we traded very well in the area previously.

“When this unit became available we jumped at the opportunity.”

Iceland currently has 12 stores in Ireland, with the company aiming to open between 50 and 70 stores in next five to seven years.

The Tallaght store will be the biggest store Iceland has in Ireland to date, with the new-look, concept store, being three-times bigger than its other Irish outlets.

Mr Metcalfe said: “We hope to create in the region of 30/35 jobs for the area.

“These jobs will be right across the board from supervisory positions to home delivery drivers.”

Iceland is expecting to arrive on site on Monday, February 6, with the store sue to open to the public in mid-April.
