Investigation into assault and robbery at Clondalkin shops
By Maurice Garvey
GARDAÍ are investigating an assault and robbery outside a Clondalkin shop, which left a young male hospitalised, reports Maurice Garvey.
On Sunday, March 20, a man in his mid-20s was on a push-bike outside Greenpark shops on St John’s Drive, and was approached by another male wearing black.
The cyclist was assaulted, and his bicycle was stolen by the suspect. The victim’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Local reports indicate a knife was used during the attack, but this was not confirmed by gardaí.
A garda spokesperson said: “The incident occurred on March 20 at the Greenpark shops at approximately 5.30pm. The injured party was in his mid-20s, and had a bike stolen. He was subsequently brought to Tallaght Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“Gardaí are investigating the incident. The suspect was dressed in black.”
Residents have blasted the attack on social media, citing a string of bike-related robberies in recent weeks.
One mother said her son was cycling home from work on Monday on the Fonthill Road, and “three lads threw him off his bike” and “kicked him on the ground.”
“Nothing is safe, even at this time on a public road,” said the shocked mother. Another resident believes it is “the same gang of youngfellas.”
“They don’t even try to hide themselves – they’re everywhere in their group on their bikes,” she said. Anyone with information on the Greenpark incident, or with regard to any recent incidents, is encouraged to contact Clondalkin Garda station at 666 7600.
