Ireland squad selected for Pinatar Cup

TALLAGHT’S Katie McCabe will, next week, lead the Republic of Ireland into their first ever appearance in the Pinatar Cup tournament in Spain.

The Arsenal midfielder is one of 27 players selected by manager, Vera Pauw for the competition in which Ireland are guaranteed three games, starting with a clash against Poland next Wednesday.

Also named in the panel is Peamount United’s Áine O’Gorman who will be hoping to add to the 111 caps she has already chalked up for her country.

Former Peamount captain, Louise Quinn together with other ex-Peas’ Claire Walsh, Niamh Farrelly, Heather Payne, Denise O’Sullivan and Amber Barrett are also travelling to Spain.

The tournament, which also involves Belgium, Slovakia, Wales, Scotland, Russia and Hungary, will provide Pauw’s side with some timely preparation for their upcoming World Cup qualifier away to Sweden in April.

The squad will meet in Murcia, Spain on Sunday, February 13 and use the La Manga Stadium as their training base.
