Plucky Heart struck for five by Lakelands

SACRED Heart managed to squeeze in two goals in a 2-5 defeat at the hands of DDSL Under 15 Division Three Sunday rivals, Lakelands.

The Killinarden outfit slipped to their seventh defeat of the season, however, they will still be able to draw some positives from the clash in Killinarden.

Indeed, they broke the deadlock when Cameron Quinn expertly guided a free kick from the edge of the box past Lakelands shot-stopper, James Nolan.

But not long afterwards, the Stillorgan outfit restored parity when centre-midfielder, Luke Kirwan was sent through on goal and steered the ball past netminder Scott Moran who was standing in for the team’s regular keeper.

Kirwan then turned provider for the travelling side, sending Theo Roy down the left flank for him to cut back in and guide the ball home.

Lakelands returned home with the points

It went from bad to worse for Sacred Heart before the break as Lakelands added a further two.

Finlay Rice applied the finishing touch to a fine move involving Dara Maher, Dan Brophy and David Owens.

And just before the interval, Kirwan bagged his second of the game when he buried a free kick in on top.

Lakelands carried that momentum into the second half as Owens went through one-on-one with ‘Ennis and finished well.

Still, Sacred Heart never stopped battling for every ball and they were awarded a penalty which captain on the day, Aaron Scott, converted.
