Irish Rail submission about apartment complex ensures no risk to railway

IRISH Rail wrote to planners in Dublin City Council, to ensure the integrity of the Dublin/Cork railway line remains intact.
The rail company made a submission in relation to a proposed apartment complex in Kilmainham, which has been granted permission by Dublin City Council.

Covelo Developments Ltd seeks permission for 16 apartments on a backland site, located to the rear and side of The Laurels, 54 Inchicore Road, Kilmainham.
In their submission to city planners, Irish Rail state the Railway Safety Act places an “obligation on all persons carrying out any works on or near the railway to ensure that there is no increase in risk to the railway as a consequence of these works.”
They requested the applicant erect a 2.4m fence due to the proximity of the rail line, and maintain the security of the boundary.
They also requested no trees are planted along the boundary, nor cut down in the boundary, as they could block the vision of rail drivers, and their ability to see signs.
Inchicore Road Residents Group made a submission to the plans, stating the road past Kilmainham Gaol to the chapel is “at tipping point of over-development as well as vehicular congestion.”
The group believe the proposed development and consequential access road would have a “serious negative impact on the historic streetscape.”
After requesting and receiving additional information on traffic and travel plans, Dublin City Council granted permission for the development on July 25.
Among the conditions are that the developer shall pay €103k to the planning authority in respect of public infrastructure and facilities.
