LUCAN Sarsfields enjoyed no shortage of camogie success at the weekend after both their Under 14 and 15 teams captured their respective championship titles, both at the expense of Ballyboden St Enda’s.

The former  exacted revenge on their Firhouse rivals who had beaten them in this season’s Féile and the 2018 Championship, dishing them out a 1-6 to 2-2 defeat  in last Saturday’s Division One Championship Final in the National Sports Campus.

Ballyboden got off to a great start with two goals and one point in quick succession, but points from Clara Finn, Aoibheann Stokes and Niamh Roche secured Lucan a foothold by half time, with the score 0-6 to 2-2.

In the second half both defences were excellent, with just the one crucial score registered- a goal by Niamh Roche that effectively won the game and the Championship for Lucan who also finished top of Division One earlier this season.

Delighted with his side’s performance, Lucan Coach Donal Colfer said “there was so little between the teams’

“The biggest thing for me was the backs. They are an absolute team. It’s been fantastic to win two competitions this year.”

Meanwhile Lucan’s Under 15 Camogie side demonstrated how much they have improved in recent years with their 1-3 to 0-8 victory over Ballyboden in the Division One Championship decider at the National Sports Campus on Sunday.

In a tough match, Sarsfields went into half time with a slim lead, helped by the excellent free taking of Aoibheann Scott, but despite a great performance in goal by Erica Collins, ‘Boden managed to draw level not long after the break.

With the teams level heading into the closing ten minutes, Lucan summoned up a late surge to clinch a two-point win.

Delighted with a victory against a Boden team that had beaten them to the league earlier this year, Sarsfields Coach Gary Hollowed said “They’ve improved year on year.”
