“We’ve just got to play to our maximum potential”- Kelly

THOMAS Davis manager Paul Kelly is under no illusion as to the size of the task his side faces in dislodging defending champions Kilmacud Crokes from this season’s Senior Football Champion-ship when the two sides meet in the semi finals in Parnell Park this Saturday.

The Kiltipper side have proven the surprise package of this year’s competition having only last season captured the Senior Two Championship crown following their victory over St Mary’s in the decider.

Thomas Davis’ David Keogh is sure to be a vital cog for the Tallaght side in Saturday’s SFC semi final against defending champs Kilmacud

And moving back up to the top tier, they have stormed through to the last four after despatching Castleknock in the quarter finals earlier this month.

“Kilmacud for their league campaign were without five or six inter-county players and they’ll have them all back for this match.

“We’ve just got to play to our maximum potential. We just take it game by game. I know that may sound like a cliché, but it’s true.

“We’ve added some young players to the older more experienced and they’ve done well. We’ve just got to get that drive and performance on the day and hopefully it’ll be enough.

“Making it to the semi finals has given the club that bit of joy in what has been a difficult period with the passing of Andrew O’Donnell [club secretary] and the young player Dylan [O’Neill] only last week” he added.

“Last year was a great run for us. We had as good solid league campaign and got to the Senior Two Final.

“We had a bit of a dip in the league which was a bit surprising. We had a couple of injuries and a couple of lads going to the States.

“But we prepared well for the championship and drew with Raheny in our first match when we were ahead. That was a bit disappointing, but we came away from it without getting beat.

“We then put in a good performance against Plunketts which ultimately drove us through this competition” he recalled.
