It’s official – The Spice Bag is now Ireland’s favourite takeaway food!

By Simon Walsh

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past 12 months or so you are bound to have heard about the meteoric rise of the now famed Spice Bag.

The combination of chips and lightly battered chicken bites coated in what can be only described as the most mouthwatering blend of salt and spices has become a real staple of most weekends (and some weekdays…for dinner…and lunch…and when it’s raining…and pretty much any time we’re hungry), and now the bag of spicy heaven is officially Ireland’s Favourite Takeaway dish.

The Just Eat National Takeaway Awards took place on Tuesday evening, and when all the votes had been counted and verified, as is the way with these kind of things, the Spice Bag was awarded the accolade so many takeway foods crave.

Of course, we know all about the popularity of the chicken and chips combo, with our recent Spice Bag Challenge receiving a huge reaction online, and it’s no surprise really that such a sumptuous coming together of all the things people seem to love has risen to the lofty heights of now having its own award to parade before all the other lesser takeaway delights.

Among the other winners were Macari’s chipper, which collected the Best Takeaway Chipper Award, and, with several Macari’s in our area, we would like to congratulate the guys in Macari’s Walkinstown, Tallaght Village, Castletymon and Inchicore.

Eddie Rockets took home the Best American Takeaway trophy, and who could really argue with that, while the biggest award of the night, Best Takeway in Ireland, went to Apache Pizza. Again, we would like to send our congratulations to the guys in Apache Pizza in Old Bawn, Kimmage, Lucan Village and Palmerstown.

And finally, well done to everyone at Mango Tree in Lucan and Rathfarnham. Mango Tree Authentic Thai Food were named Best Dublin Takeaway, and we’re all in agreement that they’re seving up some seriously tasty food.
