IT Tallaght students learn about the realities of global business

Students from IT Tallaght have met with employers from across Irish business to discuss the realities of global business and the desired attributes of newly qualified professionals in the changing business environment.

The event organised by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) in collaboration with IT Tallaght, the Dublin Regional Skills Forum and OBI provided a forum in which employers and future employees were able to speak and network ahead of many of the students’ final year of education.

Speaking at the event Caitriona Allis, Head of ACCA Ireland said, “Employability is pivotal to the ACCA Qualification, employers help us keep a pulse on what the future of global business will look like and the important role we need to play to prepare students for an ever-changing world.”

Students were joined by business leaders from across the Irish business spectrum, including representatives from; Accenture, Primark, Eisner Amper, HSE, DKC Accountants, Baker Tilly Hughes Blake, BDO, D Bass and UPS.

The representatives of business rotated around the student groups giving them a brief update in relation to what they are looking for when recruiting, giving insight into the skills they expect to be evidenced and taking informal questions from those present.

Natasha Kinsella, Manager at Dublin Regional Skills (an initiative of the Department of Education), noted “The event seeks to create meaningful engagement between Industry and Education and in doing so, address regional skills gaps and the future talent pipeline.”

Speaking after the event Thomas Stone, President of IT Tallaght remarked that “IT Tallaght is delighted to have hosted this employability event in collaboration with ACCA and the Dublin Regional Skills forum.

“This event presented a unique opportunity for our students to create direct links with a number of industry leading employers, allowing them to start building their professional network, and learn more about the accounting and finance professional.

“Similarly for employers it was a great opportunity to meet with some of the exceptionally talented students we have here in IT Tallaght and to strengthen their links with us with a view to future collaboration on graduate recruitment.”
