Kearney serves up more Masters record-breaking performances

CAROL Kearney appears to be peaking at the right time for next month’s Irish Masters Championships following her recent record breaking runs in the W55 100m and 200m.
The Lucan Harriers athlete broke the former in Carlow earlier this month with a superb time of 10.51 seconds before setting a new National best for the 200m in Tallaght Athletic Club only to then better that again with a time of 29.84 seconds in Le Chéile.

“I’m delighted. I’m very happy to beat the 100m and 200m record and I hope to keep improving” said Kearney.
The new records are another huge achievement for Kearney who did not take to the track until late in her career.
“I only got into running very late. I did a couple of marathons and didn’t start track until I was about 50” she explained.
“For me it’s all about learning and enjoying the new experiences that come with the sport including different types of training”.
“I train Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and that is all on the track with the addition of gym work immediately after. I also do plyometrics on Friday”.
Kearney is looking forward to racing in major upcoming events, including the National Masters Championship next month and possibly the European Indoor Masters Championships in Portugal in January and/or the European Outdoor Masters in Finland next July.
