Kelly crowned National champion
By Stephen Leonard
JOHN Kelly won the National Championships at the Martial Arts Expo in the Irish Open held in Citywest at the weekend.
The most prestigious event on the Irish Brazilian Jiu Jitsu calendar, the Irish Open sees a huge number of athletes chasing the elusive title.
Kelly beat a seasoned competitor John Mullen from BJJ Revolution in the semi-finals, setting him up for a clash with the talented Darren Lewins from Marcelo Garcia Blanchardstown whom he beat with the signature Helio Gracie cross choke from guard in 40 seconds.
Next up for the local man is the British National Championships GI and NO GI in London on June 25/26.
