Kenny introduces more young blood into Ireland squad

STEPHEN Kenny has shown he is ready to introduce more young blood into the Ireland senior international set-up after he opted to include Adam Idah and Jayson Molumby in his first squad ahead of next month’s UEFA Nations League games away to Bulgaria and at home to Finland.

The Tallaght man is only too familiar with the potential of these brand new additions to the squad having worked with them during his time as Ireland Under 21 boss.

Aaron Connolly and Troy Parrott have also been included while former Shamrock Rovers full back Enda Stevens has been named among the defenders as a result of his great run with Sheffield United.

Bournemouth’s Mark Travers has also been given the nod, the former Lucan United and Cherry Orchard player among the three goalkeeping options Kenny has at his disposal along with Darren Randolph and Kieran O’Hara.

Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy, Shane Long of Southampton, Fulham’s Harry Arter and Blackburn’s Darragh Lenihan are all back in the panel for the upcoming two fixtures.

Sheffield United forward David McGoldrick, the 3 FAI Player of the Year for 2020, will join the squad for the Finland game, pending the assessment of a long-term foot injury.
Among the notable absentees from the squad are Shamrock Rovers playmaker Jack Byrne and Preston North End’s Sean Maguire while Kenny has also opted not to avail of the experienced Glenn Whelan.
