Laurels Cycle Crew to raise funds for new ageing well centre

THIS year marks the 15th year of the annual Laurels Cycle Crew’s (LCC) Galway to Dublin charity cycle, which will take place from April 26-28.

Over the past 14 years the crew has raised over €1.2m for various charities.

This year LCC are fundraising on behalf of Tallaght University Hospital Foundation (TUHF) to support the Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) Ageing Well Centre in Clondalkin village at the Presentation Convent on New Road which is due to open soon.

Kelly Crowley, Head of Development for TUHF said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the LCC charity partner which will support the development of a new Ageing Well Centre in Clondalkin, helping local people access vital healthcare directly within their community.

“Thanks to this generous community support, we can support Tallaght University Hospital to continue to improve services and infrastructure extending beyond the confines of the hospital walls.”

For the past 14 years cyclists of all abilities have taken part in what is a fun filled, albeit energy sapping challenge to cycle from Galway to Dublin.

Day one is the biggie, covering 127km to Tullamore from the Connaught Hotel in Galway, followed by a barbeque later on that evening to regale friends with stories from the day.

Day two covers 91km from Tullamore to The Laurels in Clondalkin where a big crowd is always in attendance to welcome home the cyclists and crew.

Every year the crew’s support team and road marshals provide assistance to the riders during the challenge, which supports the LCC mantra that “nobody gets left behind.”

There are stops every 25km or so for participants to refuel and reload until the next stop.

The crew always welcome new participants of all abilities, for a fun filled and rewarding event.
