Lauren laps up the fame on The Voice UK
By Laura Lyne
TALENTED Clondalkin singer Lauren Lapsley-Browne has made it through to the live rounds of The Voice UK, after being chosen as one of the members of Team will.i.am.
The plucky 18-year-old managed to wow her mentor will.i.am once again with a performance of Release Me by Agnes, with many comments online praising her performance as her strongest of the competition so far.
As a result of becoming a member of Team will.i.am, Lauren will now head to the live rounds of the competition which are set to begin this weekend on BBC.
Her confidence has grown from week to week, and Lauren’s fanbase has mushroomed over the last few weeks as she becomes one of the top favourites to make it through to the final of the competition.
Ahead of her show-stealing appearance, judge will.i.am praised Lauren’s performance in the head-to-head rounds, where she was chosen ahead of Vivica Jade.
Calling her performance against Vivica Jade “dope”, he went on to say that Lauren is “sweet” and a “darling”.
Speaking about her experience on The Voice UK so far, Lauren said: “I am still in shock, I can’t believe it. Being on the stage is so much better than working in any bagel shop.”
Lauren, who cites Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé as her biggest inspirations, told The Echo ahead of her performance of Release Me that it was “crazy” that she had made it to the knock-out stages of the competition.
Lauren said: “I’m so looking forward to the next performance. I’m going to treat it like my last performance, because you don’t know what will happen.”
Since her performance, Lauren has also received praise from singer and actress Rhiannon Jameson, who called her a “lovely girl” and said that Lauren could go on to win the entire competition.
Originally from St John’s but now living in Bawnogue, Lauren is a former student with Coláiste Bride and works part-time in a bagel bar in Dublin.
The Voice UK airs on BBC One on Saturday at 7.45pm, with Lauren’s next performance due to take place on March 26.
