PLANS for LED lighting for a sports pitch at the site of the former Victory Centre on Firhouse Road, which is now the Church of Scientology and Community Centre of Dublin, have been given the thumbs down by South Dublin County Council.

The applicant, Julie Lind, applied for planning permission for the erection of six lighting poles to support LED lighting for the sports pitch last August.

It was proposed that the poles would be at a height of 15 metres from the existing pitch levels, and that they would be connected to an existing subterranean ducted electrical supply.

There were provisions for associated site landscaping works, comprising supplementary tree and hedgerow planting to the existing site boundary to the north of the site, adjacent to the Dodder Valley Greenway.

The application for planning permission was refused by South Dublin County Council this month.
