Liffey Valley and The Square Shopping Centres see growth in sales and footfall

SHOPPING centres reaped the benefits of a growing economy during December as shoppers from across Tallaght, Clondalkin, Lucan and Ballyfermot spent more money ahead of Christmas and New Year.
One centre confirmed a four per cent increase in footfall counts over last year, with a noticeable increase in sales taking place in centres across the county.
The positive growth in sales in centres across the county comes as analysts announced that sales saw a 2.2 per cent increase in November across the country.
Jack Martin, Director of Retail at The Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght told The Echo: “Footfall was very brisk throughout December and we are very pleased with the increases the centre achieved.
“This will be the fourth year of sustained growth and it was very apparent that this year, the customer was also very positive and in a mood to spend which is a reflection of the confidence in the economy.
“Counts were up four per cent on the back of a great growth uplift on last year with many of the retailers quoting double digit growth. We are looking forward to continuing this into 2016.”
The growth in sales was also seen in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, which recently underwent expansion works.
David Ward, Centre Operations Manager for Liffey Valley Shopping Centre said: “Liffey Valley Shopping Centre had an extremely busy trading period over Christmas with positive feedback from our retailers reporting a noticeable increase in sales compared to recent years.
“Our footfall was very healthy with the recent extension works to the western entrance attracting a lot of inquisitive customers making use of the new and improved Vue Cinema and we expect a lot more interest in the coming year with the opening of six new restaurants and the exciting arrival of Penney’s bringing more custom and employment into the area.”
The Echo made several attempts to contact the management of The Mill Shopping Centre in Clondalkin and Citywest Shopping Centre, but a comment was not received in time for print.
