Lions roar back in final quarter to see off All-Stars

A MASSIVE fourth quarter performance saw Dublin Lions overhaul a 16-point deficit and clinch an 80-81 point victory over EJ Sligo All-Stars in Mercy College on Saturday.

The Clondalkin side, having lost to Sligo in both National League and Cup competition, looked to be on course for a third loss to the National Cup finalists as they trailed 50-34 at the halftime break.

Unable to make any in-roads into this gap throughout the third quarter, they were left requiring something really special to haul this one out of the fire.

And it came in the form of eight three-pointers in the final quarter, Chris McNairney and Muhamed Sabic each accounting for three while Hillary Netsiyanwa hit the other two.

They helped haul Lions to within a point of their hosts after which they earned two late free throws which Adam O’Reilly held his nerve to plant and clinch a memorable victory for the team.

It marked only their third win in the league so far this season, but they will be looking to build on that when they face off against the other National Cup finalists Neptune in Colaiste Bhride this coming Sunday.
