A TALLAGHT schoolboy got an early Christmas present when his hero, Liverpool striker Mo Salah, handed him his jersey following Liverpool’s win over Napoli in Anfield.

Shayne McCabe (6), a pupil in St Mark’s National School in Springfield, burst into tears of joy when the striker handed him his jersey.

Shayne is a dedicated fan of the Reds, having been to Anfield five times to watch his favourite football player, and he even showed his loyalty to Mo Salah by supporting Egypt during the World Cup.

After being told by his father, Niall, the day before the December 11 match, that he’d be going to Anfield, Shayne made a sign asking Mo Salah if he could have his jersey, as he saw a YouTube video of another fan who got the striker’s jersey when he did this.

Shayne’s dad, Niall, told The Echo: “I booked the trip ages ago, but I only told Shayne on Monday morning that we were going to Liverpool.

“We went in before kick-off and we were down at the front when the players were training. Mo Salah saw his sign and waved at him and gave him a thumbs-up.”

When the match was over Mo Salah sprinted over and gave his jersey to Anfield staff who then passed it over to the schoolboy, who burst into tears.

Niall added: “Mo Salah is his hero. We’re going to get the jersey framed, and then Shayne can hang it up in his bedroom.”

The magical moment was captured by Liverpool FC’s TV channel, where a teary-eyed Shayne said “thank you, Mo”.
