The money can be used to fund a variety of projects and items for sports clubs, ranging from ball-stopping nets and work on pitches, up to essential medical items such as defibrillators.

Speaking about the funding, Minister Katherine Zappone said: “We are lucky in Tallaght to have committed clubs, workers and volunteers delivering all sorts of activities for the benefit of all.

“This work deserves government support. The annual Sports Capital Grant is an opportunity for our local clubs to improve their facilities and this year a total of €30million is up for grabs.”

Minister Zappone added: “As the weather improves people in Tallaght will be rediscovering their passion for the outdoors, so it is an ideal time to get the applications in and secure our facilities for years to come.”

The approaching deadline for applications is February 24, and interested clubs and groups can apply online at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie
