Local clubs enjoy success on UCFL Shield Finals Day

THERE was no shortage of local club success in last Saturday’s UCFL Shield Finals at the VEC Grounds.

Tallaght United emerged 4-0 winners over Malahide in the Premier Division Shield decider, subsequently making it a double having topped the Premier Division earlier in the season while just missing out on both the Challenge and Richard Knight Cups.

In Saturday’s Shield Final, Anthony Cryan sent them on their way with a goal in the opening half before they added three more in the second, courtesy of Liam Woods, Dylan Kelly and Joe Kelch.

The Division 2A Shield showpiece saw Stedfast card a 2-0 win over Clondalkin Celtic.

Ben Rossiter was the match winner as his brace saw off the Celts in a tight affair.

Belgard Athletic beat Exodus to clinch the Division 3A Shield

Special mention must go to United goalkeeper, Derek Smith as it was his long kick out that set up the first for Rossitor – his fourth assist of the season.

Stedfast finished runner up to St Anthony’s in Division 2A so promotion and Shield in their first season back is a fine return.

Belgard Athletic, meanwhile, clinched the Division 3A Shield following their 2-1 triumph over Exodus.

Mitchell Moody turned in a man-of-the-match performance and Jordan Hanley and Stephen Byrne supplied the goals for the Tallaght side.

It was a goal fest in the Division 3B Shield decider as Bushy Athletic won out 5-2 against Dublin Airport.

A hat-trick from Mark Soper and a brace from Evan Byrne proved more than enough for the eventual winners.
