GAA CLUBS throughout South Dublin are set to benefit from more than €800,000 in Sports Capital Grants as the allocation of funding for the year was announced last week.
Clubs throughout Tallaght and its surrounding areas have also benefitted greatly from the programme, with the allocation of €850,000 for various sports clubs throughout Dublin South West. Some of the highest allocations in the area include the Roadstone Group Social Club, in conjunction with Shamrock Rovers FC youth section, which received €150,000.
Templeogue Tennis Club also received €150,000, with plans for an air hall to use during the winter months currently going through the planning process with South Dublin County Council.
St Mary’s College Rugby Football Club also received €32,347 in funding, with Tallaght Leisure Centre receiving €6,826 and Fortunestown Swimming Club receiving €1,060.
A number of GAA clubs throughout South Dublin County benefited from the allocation of funds through the Sports Capital Programme, including Ballyboden St Enda’s, Lucan Sarsfields, Faughs, Commercials Hurling, Round Towers, St Judes, St Mary’s Saggart, St Pat’s Palmerstown and Thomas Davis.
The highest allocation went to St Jude’s, Round Towers (Pictured right), St Pat’s Palmerstown and Thomas Davis, which each received €150,000.
Thomas Davis will use its funding toward the construction of a ground floor and first floor extension to its clubhouse which will include a tuck shop, a new sports treatment room and extended lounge and games room – planning permission was granted in June.
St Jude’s GAA received €150,000 toward their all-weather pitch and for the installation of flood lights, which were refused permission at the end of September.
The Sports Capital Programme is funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and “aims to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country”.
