Locals claim double gold win at World Skills event

TALLAGHT’S Ros Wynne and Ratchcoole’s Alina Sile won gold medals for Team Ireland at this year’s WorldSkills competition in Brazil.
Wynne, who is from Kingswood, took gold in the Aircraft Maintenance category, while Alina Síle emerged victorious in the Restaurant Services section.
Cian Mulligan, also from Rathcoole, was awarded a medal of excellence for Cabinet Making, and in total Team Ireland were awarded two gold medals and eight medallions of excellence.
The team’s impressive performance also earned them an overall 11th place ranking, with the squad of 14 young apprentices, trainees and students representing Ireland at the 43rd WorldSkills Competition in Brazil.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Ireland has won gold in Aircraft Maintenance. The Medallions of Excellence were awarded for the following skills: Beauty Therapy; Electrical Installation; Joinery; Cabinet Making: Automobile Technology; Plumbing; Plastering and Dry Wall; and Construction Metal Work. The team’s individual scores all contributed to the collective 11th place of Ireland.
