Luas asked to give same service to Red Line and Green Line customers during Christmas festive season

LUAS are being asked to provide the same amount of late-night Christmas trams on the Red Line, as they do for the Green Line, reports Maurice Garvey.

Dublin City councillors passed a motion proposed by Independent councillor Paul Hand, requesting the same service is provided on both lines this Christmas.

Tallaght LUAS

According to their website, Luas will provide twice the amount of late-night trams on the Green Line during December, compared to late-night trams available on the Red Line.

The company have cited a lack of demand for a late-night Red Line service.

“There should be full parity of the service, and it makes complete sense as the Red Line provides two-thirds of the revenue of Luas,” said Cllr Hand.

“I don’t think it’s fair that people on the Red Line are discriminated against consistently.”

Cllr Hand says he first brought the issue to the attention of Luas two years ago, and “nothing was done about it” until he went to the media.

He said Luas restored a late-night service for the Red Line last year, but failed to provide the same amount of trams as the Green Line.

On Fridays and Saturdays throughout December, Luas are providing three late-night trams on the Red Line from midnight to 3am, and six late-night trams on the Green Line for the same time period.
