Lucan complete double with Division 2 c’ship triumph
LUCAN Sarsfields U14 Camogie side emerged victorious in the final of the Division 2 Championship, competing a league and championship double after defeating Faughs Celtic last weekend 4-05 to 3-05.
Goals came from Aoife Dowling, Doireann Ní Fhiaich, Amy Farrell with further points from Ní Fhiaich, Isabelle Harkin, Cara Clandillon and Saoirse Buckley
Lucan came into the final with confidence but were aware that they would be facing a strong Faughs side. Plans were thrown into disarray early on as Lucan’s talented goalkeeper Caoimhe Moroney fractured her ankle a day before the game being unable to play, Layla Duffy would be forced to step in between the nets and did a fantastic job.
It was a closely fought match with just a single point separating the two teams at the halftime break. It was Lucan who came in with a slight advantage after playing with the wind behind them.
Faughs brought a great intensity to the opening half of the game and were dominant in the possession throughout the opening period, despite playing against the wind.
Lucan in the second half however would regroup and come out with a real sense of determination as they battled against the wind, outworking and outscoring the opposition.
This led them into the final minutes of the game ahead by a fairly comfortable scoreline, with eight points separating the sides and three minutes to go, Lucan suffered a late scare with Faughs grabbing two goals late on.
Lucan responded in turn with a point and held out for a three point win with Saoirse Buckley being named as Player of the Match.
