LUCAN HARRIERS AC must play a waiting game and see if a new contractor can be appointed to finish their new track.

Recently the club were hit with the news that their current contractor, Crawfords Contracts Group Ltd had gone into administration.

Work had just started on the club’s new €600,000 track.

In October 2015, the club received €200,000 in sports capital funding for the track and they have been fundraising continuously for the project.

It was expected that the track would be ready in four months but everything now has been put on hold.

A Spokesperson for Lucan Harriers AC told The Echo: “We are working with South Dublin County Council on the next steps and our priority is still building a new athletics track for Lucan. We are a vibrant club of 320 members and will continue to work together for this new facility.”

The Echo contacted South Dublin Council to see when a new contractor can be appointed.

The Council released a short statement in response: “South Dublin County Council have been notified of the formal Notice of Appointment of an Administrator to Crawford Contracts Group Ltd.

“Crawford Contracts Group Ltd were contracted by the Council to carry out works at the athletics track at Lucan. The site has been secured and stakeholders have been notified.

“The Council intends taking appropriate action under the terms of the contract.

“Once contractual matters are finalised the continuation of the project will be considered in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders.”

Local Councillor Vicki Casserly expressed her support for the club.

She told The Echo: “I’ll support club in this unforseen situation as best I can while keeping contact with officials in SDCC.”
