Lucan into minor camogie final
A late injury time goal from goalkeeper Mia Farrel sent Lucan Sarsfields through to a first Minor A Camogie final in five years as they defeated Ballyboden St Enda’s by the minimum after extra time.
Sarsfields started the better in the game and led 1-06 to 0-08 at the interval thanks to a goal from Eva Collis, with Saoirse Fitzgerald and Sadhbh Ni Bhuachulla also picking up a point each in a first half which should have seen Lucan further ahead.
Now playing against the wind, Ballyboden were the dominant team in the second half, winning the physical battles and looking the more likely to win the game.
A second goal from Collis along with another major from Reka Kaiss Kallo kept the scoreline ticking for Lucan, with the goals coming ten minutes apart from each other.
Boden deservedly took the lead heading into the last quarter, in a frantic last 15 minutes which saw the lead change multiple times as both sides went point for point.
A late Lucan point sent the game to extra time and Boden continued their momentum as they got a goal straight away at the restart to go three in front.
Lucan responded with three consecutive points in no small part to Collis who was brilliant on the night, before another Boden major sent them two clear at extra time half time.
After losing both their full back and centre back to injury, the game looked to be slipping away from Lucan with no scores in the second half until the last two minutes of play.
Sarsfields would win it in the most dramatic of circumstances as keeper Mia Farrell struck the net from a 21 yard free to send her side to a first minor final in half a decade.
Speaking on the game, Manager Eoin McDonagh said; “They showed huge resilience to get over the line”.
The reward for doing so is a meeting with Cuala next weekend in what is sure to be a keenly contested game.
