Run will remember all those we have lost
THE 13th edition of the Remembrance Run takes place in the Phoenix Park on Sunday November 10.
This year’s Remembrance Run 5k, which is supported by 123.ie and Evergreen Care, will see people come together and ‘fondly remember’ all those who we have lost.
This special event includes a morning of Choirs, Music, Song, Poetry, Commentary, and a Special Wall of Remembrance.
Frank Greally, in association with Athletics Ireland, founded the Remembrance Run 13 years ago and it has taken place on the second Sunday of every November since its inception.
One of the many people who will be remembered at the event is the late Johnny Fox, founder of the charity run Darkness into Light and an iconic figure in Tallaght Athletics.
Greally spoke to Fox’s son Sean Fox recently in a special interview at the launch of the Remembrance Month.
Speaking about his late father, Sean said: “I was talking to him and I said, Dad, if you could tell me one thing that’s really important in life for you what would that one thing be and he said the importance of friendship.”
“He was a coach but he was a friend, he was a father but he was a friend, he was a husband but he was a friend, he was a grandfather he was a friend, he really had that down you know that he cared about the person.”
“A lot of people spoke to me about that.
They spoke about the fact that he didn’t just care about you know if it was a class athlete or unique athlete, he just cared about, no matter what it was you got the same attention, he put the same amount of time into you no matter what you were and that’s quite amazing to be able to do that.”
Any proceeds from the event go towards supporting The Daily Mile – a 15 minutes a day walk or run program which is promoted by Athletics Ireland in Primary Schools all over Ireland.
