Man caught drug driving is diaqualified for two years

A MAN who was caught drug driving was disqualified from the road for two years at Tallaght District Court.

Gary Quinn (46), with an address of Dunmurry Rise, Kildare, appeared at court pleading guilty to the charge.

Garda Declan Buckley told the court that on August 6, 2019, gardai stopped a vehicle, driven by the defendant, at Sundale Park, Tallaght.

A drug test revealed the presence of cocaine. The court heard Quinn has seven previous convictions, including a previous two-year disqualification from driving.

Defence solicitor Ciara O’Brien said her client has suffered from addiction for many years but was in recovery and sober for the last one year and four months, having completed a six-month rehabilitation programme.

Ms Quinn said her client was anxious to have matters finalised so he can move forward in life, take care of his family, and does not want to present in court again. Judge Patricia McNamara accepted the accused’s recovery was due “credit” but noted that Quinn was just out of a two-year disqualification, when this offence occurred.

The court heard Mr Quinn was not currently driving. Judge McNamara disqualified Quinn for two years and fined him €450 with five months to pay.
