Man charged with murder of Patricia O’Connor said “it was self-defence”

A man (32) has appeared in Tallaght Court charged with the murder of grandmother Patricia O’Connor whose remains were found dumped in the Wicklow Mountains

After he was charged Kieran Green said: “it was self-defence”.

Mr Green, with an address at Mountain View Park in Churchtown, was arrested at Bray Garda station and was charged with murder at 11:28am this morning.

When charged, Mr Green said “it was self-defence”..

The murder of Patricia O’Connor (61) allegedly took place at Mountain View Park, Churchtown between May 29 and 30 of this year.

Judge Patricia McNamara remanded the accused in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday. He will have to apply to the High Court for bail.

The court heard Mr Green is unemployed and Judge McNamara granted free legal aid.

Ms O’Connor was reported missing from her home in Rathfarnham on June 2.

Gardai were alerted to an area along Military Road on Saturday evening when a group of tourists discovered a human torso.

A widespread search of the area was quickly launched, and similar discoveries were made in several locations.

Those locations remain sealed off today, and searches are continuing in the area.
