LONG-distance runner Mark Conlon is planning to run 10 marathons in 10 days for an inner-city homeless charity.

The Bawnogue resident will do the marathons from April 12 to 21, and is inviting people from Clondalkin and other communities to join him for a mile or two on the morning of April 13.

“I’m raising money for Inner City Helping Homeless and the target is €10,000,” he said.

“Our group was founded in 2013 by friends, business people, local activists and community leaders, to take action against homelessness.

“We initially began by undertaking small food drives, distributing food and clothing parcels to homeless men and women. In 2014, we took the step of establishing ourselves as an official charity and secured long-term premises to further aid our development.”

Last year Conlon completed 33 marathons in 33 days for the Peter McVerry Trust.

“I wasn’t happy with only raising €3,000 and I’ll be looking to raise a lot more this year.”

The Luas security guard and former Irish soldier, said he sees “first hand” the challenges faced by people living rough through his job in the city centre.

“I’m also appealing to all Clondalkin businesses to donate as much or as little as they can on my Facebook page.”
