Maynooth University partners up with Family Cooking Club founder

MAYNOOTH University has teamed up with award-winning cookbook author and social entrepreneur Jolene Cox to become a project partner with her newly launched Family Cooking Club.

The University’s MSc of Design Innovation, the first of its kind in Europe, reached out to Tallaght woman Jolene, who runs the cooking initiative One Yummy Mummy.

Over an eight-week period, students undertook in-depth research of the platform to explore user insights and collect feedback to map and streamline this rapidly growing subscription service.

A recent study undertaken by Maynooth University has shown that time pressures and lack of inspiration are two of the main stresses parents face when preparing family meals.

Assistant Professor Dr Linzi Ryan was delighted to work with Jolene. “The type of innovation our students really flourish in working with and developing on to the next stage,” said Dr Ryan.

With a growing influential following across social media, Jolene has pioneered a home-cooking movement with regular TV cookery slots and contributions to national media as well as publishing two best-selling cookery books.

She has also initiated a school’s cookery programme for parents, hosted summer cooking camps for children and founded the Home Cooks Ireland Facebook community group.

“I was thrilled to be approached by Maynooth University to work with them as a project partner, and I am delighted their research has confirmed that the Family Cooking Club is an accessible solution for parents out there who are struggling in the kitchen,” said Jolene.

The innovative online cooking club puts a strong emphasis on getting children into the kitchen to teach them lifelong cookery skills and that healthy eating can be fun.

It is designed to bring families of all ages together to interact and be part of an inclusive cooking community.

For a subscription of just €10 per month or €100 annually, members of the Family Cooking Club enjoy access to easy to follow, delicious recipes, live cook along Zoom classes, new recipe content every week, step-by-step cooking video tutorials and much more.
