McGovern bags second Irish title

KILNAMANAGH’S Georgia McGovern secured her second national boxing title this year after she defeated Derry’s Carleigh Irvine from Oakleaf Boxing Club in the Girl Six 48kg decider in the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Setanta Academy boxer, who earlier this year won the Under 18 Championship in which she was one of the youngest boxers competing, has secured her position on the Irish team which will contest the European Youth Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria from April 12-22.

No stranger to international competition, McGovern boxed at the European Championships in 2019 when she won a silver medal.

“This boxer is an incredible young talent and deserves all the success in the world for her hard work and dedication to the sport” said Michael Lambe, Head Coach of Setanta Boxing Academy.

“No doubt Georgia will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Dubliner, Kellie Harrington” he added.
