McHale family plan to build 242 apartments at Broomhill Road Industrial Estate

LANDS at Broomhill Road in Tallaght have been earmarked for the proposed development of 242 apartments.

The plans were submitted to An Bord Pleanála last month by Garyaron Homes Limited, whose directors include motor rally champion Austin McHale and his sons Gareth and Aaron.

The apartments are to be housed across five blocks, lettered from A to E, and ranging from four- to seven-storeys in height.

Block A is to be five-storeys, comprising 40 apartments in the form of four one-bed, 31 two-bed and five three-bed units.

Blocks B and C are to be seven-storeys, containing 102 apartments, 45 of which are to be one-bed units and 57 are to be two-bed units.

Block D is to range from five- to seven-storeys, comprising 16 one-bed and 20 two-bed units.

Block E, ranging from four- to five-storeys, is to house 31 one-bed and 33 two-bed units.

The proposal includes the development of a childcare facility/creche, a café, a resident lounge, a letting office, a rentable room/studio space, a public gym and a public coworking space.

According to the planning application, each residential unit will be afforded private open space in the form of a balcony or terrace.

A total of 136 car parking spaces are to be provided at ground floor level, and 426 bicycle spaces are also proposed.

A decision on the application is due from An Bord Pleanála by September 5.

According to South Dublin County Council’s Tallaght Local Area Plan 2020-2026, the overall area of Broomhill and Greenhills is to be “predominantly business with more mixed-use residential” uses.

The surrounding area is the subject of numerous large-scale developments, including the site of the former Gallaher’s cigarette factory on the Greenhills Road, where plans for a €110m residential development consisting of 502 apartments have been approved by An Bord Pleanála.
