Medals galore for Whitechurch boxers
Whitechurch Boxing Club were celebrating their finest ever performance in the Dublin Leagues at the end of 2018 with an exceptional 11 League Champions and two Runners-Up from 17 entries.
The Dublin Leagues are amongst the longest running juvenile boxing competitions in the world and in its 78th year hundreds of boxers from all across the capital competed against one another every Monday and Wednesday evening from late-September to mid-December.

The tournament culminated with the finals held in the iconic home of Irish boxing, the National Stadium on the South Circular Road, before Christmas.
Having entered a club record 17 boxers spanning the 11–16 age bracket, the Rathfarnham-based club were a constant participant throughout the tournament. At the conclusion of the championships, the club were delighted to be amongst the top clubs in the county.
“We always base how happy we are as a team on performance, win or lose,” Whitechurch BC Head Coach Derek Delaney said in the aftermath of the finals.
“Although in saying that, it is a nice feeling to see so many of our young boxers getting recognition for their efforts throughout the last few months and get over the line and collect League titles,” Delaney continued, “The hard work starts in earnest now as we move into 2019 as the Dublin Championships fast approach and we hope to give a good account of ourselves and perform as best as we can going forward.”
Whitechurch BC’s League Champions for 2018 were Alex Simpson, Ciaran Daly, Marty Maughan, Tom Conroy, Jamie McCann, Aaron Creighton, Aaron Downey, Sean Kane, Freddie Rumling, Emma Harding and Gabrielle Mongon. Silver was collected by Sean Byrne and Kacie Delaney.
As the club moves into its tenth anniversary year, the hope for everyone involved will be that they can have more days like these in the not too distant future.
