Local updates: SDCC reminds people to be home by 4pm at “the latest”

SNOW is currently falling in Tallaght, Clondalkin Lucan and Ballyfermot, with South Dublin County Council reminding people to be home by 4pm at the “very latest” today. 

According to the latest information from the council, its gritting teams are still out and are this morning prioritising main traffic routes, village centres and key pedestrian routes - with most major routes currently passable.

However, the council has been advised by its crews that the Ballinsacorney road (R114) has become impassable due to drifting snow and snowfall.

In a Facebook post this morning, the council advised: “Conditions are expected to worsen today so please heed the warning about being indoors by 4pm at the very latest.”

The key message to people is to stay safe as weather conditions worsen.

Poor driving conditions are reported in all areas particularly around housing estates as the government warns everyone to stay indoors from 4pm today (Thursday).


No Dublin Bus services will operate today Thursday.


Luas is operating on all sections of the Green and Red Lines at a reduced frequency of approx 30 minutes.

The Red Line service is running from Saggart/Tallaght to The Point with an expected frequency of approx 30 minutes. Last tram from Saggart, Tallaght and The Point will be 12 noon. The last trams will run all the way to the end of the line. Updates on Luas services for further in the week will be updated later in the day.


Met Eireann is reporting widespread snow showers moving east to west this morning. Current temperatures around the country ranging -3 to -6°C. Snow showers continuing this morning and afternoon with more persistent snow pushing up from the south east later this afternoon and evening in strengthening easterly winds.

AA is reporting dangerous driving conditions throughout the county.The M50 is fully operational at the moment with crews out clearing the lanes.

Tallaght District Court won’t be sitting on Thursday or Friday. All adult cases listed for Thursday and Friday will be listed for Monday March 5 at 10.30am.

All juvenile cases listed at noon on Friday, March 2 will now be listed in Tallaght Court on Friday, March 9 at noon.
