103 apartment plans needs ‘further consideration’ – ABP

PLANS for the demolition of Morton’s Pub in Firhouse to make way for the construction of an apartment block require “further consideration/amendment”, according to An Bord Pleanála (ABP).

The proposal for the construction of 103 apartments was lodged by Bluemont Developments Firhouse Limited last September, for a pre-planning consultation with ABP.

Pre-planning consultations are held in advance of developers submitting full planning applications for Strategic Housing Developments (SHDs).

The proposed SHD takes in 2 Firhouse Road and the public house known as Morton’s/The Firhouse Inn.

The plans include the demolition of the existing buildings on site to make way for 103 apartments, a creche and all associated site works.

On February 22, ABP ruled that the proposed development required “further consideration/amendment” before being submitted as a full planning application for an SHD.

According to local historian Albert Perris’ A Ramble About Tallaght blog, Harry Morton purchased The Firhouse Inn for £22,800 back in March 1963.

The last post on the Morton’s Pub Facebook page was in February 2020, with the pub then going on to permanently shut its doors shortly thereafter.
